Boca Juniors - The daddy of them all... Maradona, Riquelme, Tévez, the Bombonera and so on. Boca Juniors are the people's team and the most popular and successful club in Argentina and South America, encapsulated in their nickname: La mitad más 1 -> Half plus 1.

Boca was founded by 5 young Italian and Greek students, under the guidance and coaching of the Irishman Paddy McCarthy in 1905. A year later they lost to Nottingham de Almagro and the club's famous blue and yellow colours were adopted based on the Swedish flag of the next ship to arrive at the La Boca port.The club remains in the humble La Boca neighbourhood and maintains its attachment to the working class of Buenos Aires and beyond.

The club has famously never been relegated unlike all their rivals - there was a clock in the stadium counting to the second Los Xeneizes’ time spent in the top tier, however it was removed recently as the new directors wanted to focus on the club and not their rivals.

The nickname, meaning Chocolate Box, was given to the stadium in reference to the shape of two trays one on top of the other - the Bombonera more than any other stadium gives the impression of being right on top of the pitch, with the stands rising vertically. The design also helps create the world-famous atmosphere, led by "La Doce", the super-fans who sing, jump, shout non-stop for hours during every game - right above the visiting team’s dressing room.
