Founded in 1908
Located at Bajo Flores Neighbourhood - Buenos Aires City, San Lorenzo de Almagro were named after Saint Laurence as a compromise after a priest named Lorenzo Massa founded the club as a safe place for local children to play after he saw them nearly being knocked over by a tram - they wanted to name the team after him originally, but then settled on San Lorenzo.

The religious theme continues as the late Pope Francis was a huge fan and apparently watched all of the games on TV from the Vatican. In recent years the club had become more popular, no doubt due to the effects of Marcelo Tinelli being club president for a 3 year period between 2019 and 2022 - he is the Argentine equivalent of Simon Cowell and brought publicity. The club finally won the Copa Libertadores in 2014.

The club play in the Nuevo Gasómetro, built in 1993 after years of wandering since they were turfed out of the original Gasómetro in Boedo. The old ground is now a massive Carrefour supermarket, and the dream of a return to their spiritual home in the Boedo neighborhood has dominated the narrative in recent years - match days are dominated by the fans' collective wish to return to what they see as their rightful home. An agreement has been reached with Carrefour and the city has approved construction, so all the pieces are in place. However it remains to be seen if the club can raise the money to construct the new stadium.
