Where we'll meet - Our group will meet at a bar near the stadium.. Your bilingual guides will explain the context of Brazilian football, the day’s game, and Flamengo's unique history as the most popular club in Brazil and the pride of Rio de Janeiro. More importantly, they’ll let you know exactly what you need to do and be aware of to be one of the lucky few to gain entry into the iconic Maracanã.

The Build-Up - Flamengo's historic stadium is a symbol of football tradition in Rio and the wider Brazilian game. The immediate surroundings of the stadium become a vibrant sea of red and black on match-days. We’ll grab a queijo coalho or churrasquinho and a cold refrigerante or beer at one of the street vendors lining the route from the metro, mingling with the Nação Rubro-Negra and learning their traditions, especially the correct rhythm and hand gestures for the iconic chant, “Uma vez Flamengo, sempre Flamengo!” Your guide will accompany you to the correct entrance gate, guiding you through the surge of the massive crowd and security checks, and finally into the ground.

The Match - Through the turnstiles and up the stairs - the Maracanã is a cathedral of football built for noise and emotion. It's a famous cauldron designed to amplify the passion of its fans. When you see the sweeping stands and the huge pitch, you'll understand why this is the home of Flamengo’s biggest nights. In the stands, you'll hear the relentless chanting of the supporters, with massive flags and banners creating an electrifying red-and-black atmosphere. The Come Down - The inevitable adrenaline crash after the ecstasy, streaming out of the exits. You’ll head directly back to the secure meeting point and your guide will assist in pointing you in the right direction to get back home safely. More importantly, they’ll let you know exactly what you need to do and be aware of to enjoy the matchday and gain entry to the historic Nilton Santos Stadium, also known as Engenhão.

The Build-Up – On matchdays, the area around Nilton Santos comes alive in black and white as Botafogo supporters gather before the game. We’ll stop for some local food and a cold refrigerante or beer, soaking up the atmosphere and getting to know the traditions and chants of the Glorioso. Your guide will accompany you to the correct entrance gate, helping you navigate the crowds and security checks before heading into the stadium.

The Match – Through the turnstiles and into the Nilton Santos, Botafogo’s modern home and one of Rio’s most distinctive football grounds. The stadium comes alive with the black-and-white torcida, flags, banners and chants filling the stands. Your guide will keep the group together and share the history of the Glorioso, one of Brazil’s most historic clubs, as you experience a genuine Botafogo matchday alongside its supporters.

The Come Down – Once the final whistle goes, you’ll head towards the agreed meeting point and your guide will help you navigate the exit and point you in the right direction to get back safely. Whether it’s a victory or a tough night, you’ll leave having experienced another side of Rio’s football culture — this time with the Fogão.

What you need

• Passport (not a copy/screenshot).
• Some cash if you want to buy some pre-game snacks and beers. Drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, can be purchased inside the stadium as well.
• Very casual clothing and comfortable footwear for walking/standing (dress-down!).
• Coats/jackets for the cold/rain.
• You can bring your phone to take pictures.
• Leave your valuables at home and travel light - no handbags, make-up, power banks, water bottles, lighters, umbrellas… these will be confiscated.
• Your psyched-up self, it will be intense!
