Founded in 1903
Racing Club - Based in Avellaneda, 50 meters from their arch-rivals, and follow members of the so-called 5 Grandes, Independiente; and just across the River Riachuelo from the city and Boca Juniors. They are known as El Primer Grande (the first Great Team) as they were the first team founded by and including local players, to win the league in 1913, going on to win 7-in-a-row. That also earned them their nickname of La Academia (the academy) because of the conveyor-belt of talent.

Not only that, they were the first Argentine club to win the Intercontinental Cup, defeating the great Lisbon Lions Celtic team in a playoff at the Battle of Montevideo. Racing won the league in 2018/19 with Lisandro Lopez as captain and Diego Milito behind the scenes. Their most famous recent player is Lautaro Martínez of Internazionale in Milan.

La Academia’s home is the Cilindro in Avellaneda, an imposing bowl of a stadium which houses one of the hottest atmospheres in Argentina, a close-rival to the Bombonera in that respect as fans of Racing are well-known for their undying support no matter what the circumstances. An interesting note, the stadium is named after Juan Perón, a former national President and a hero to the people to this day - many Peronist political rallies still take place in the stadium.
